The curvature of the shadow's path and the apparent rotation of the Moon's disk is due to the Earth's rotation.

The total phase of this lunar eclipse was not visible in Timbuktu, but it could be observed there as a partial lunar eclipse. The Earth's shadow covered only a small portion of the Moon.
